A cement mixing lorry overturned on 22nd May 2026 at Hall Corner on A16 damaging a garden fence.
As this is similar to a previous incident involving a cement mixer lorry, much consideration is being given to what measures can be taken to improve safety here. This was an agenda item at the parish council's meeting on 2nd July.
The public were encouraged to attend and give their views.
On 13th July at a meeting Lincolnshire County Council decided against a mandatory 20 mph speed limit.
" ... they cannot legislate for a minority of drivers who crash, no matter how serious the impact".
A recommendation to make the corner 20mph was rejected by Lincolnshire County Council’s planning committee on Monday (July 13), with councillors saying drivers should be educated rather than forced to slow down.
Councillor Martin Hill said: "This would be annoying for the vast majority who are not concrete drivers, and an unnecessary annoyance."
Other councillors who spoke at the committee meeting believed the accidents were caused by bad driving rather than dangerous conditions.
Councillor Tom Sneath said: "There are already signs and markings - we've done everything possible to let people know there's a very sharp bend."
Councillor James Bean said: "We shouldn't be legislating for poor drivers, we can’t wrap the whole world in cotton wool."
Highways have been asked to continue the investigation into the other safety measures:
* Reinstatement of the superelevation of the camber where the level has dropped as the bend passes Blacksmiths Lane.
* Installation of a raised kerb on the bend and improvements to the existing crash barrier.
* Installation of a further crash barrier to protect pedestrians walking past The Woodlands.
* Improved warning signage designed by Dawes Highways and Highways.
* Implementation of the free training and awareness raising for drivers, companies and Police that has been offered by Mark Cowan at DEK GROUP NE, and the British Concrete Transport Association.
Ongoing issues
Several pot holes on Blacksmiths Lane have been repaired, more are marked and now repaired in the 2nd week of July
Others on Fen Lane and School Lane have been repaired during June
More have been marked for repair on Church Lane and repaired in the 2nd week of July

Transport Plan for access awaited from ELDC once it is submitted by the owner.
Fen Lane outside Brayford Lodge
Blocked drain reoccurring over several years. Road completely covered in water and freezes in winter. This was repaired 13/04/2026 - 17/04/2026
A16 Junction with The Switchback (Old Bolingbroke Lane)
Long-standing flooding and drainage issue, leading to many potholes in a small area on an ongoing basis. Pot holes here have been repaired on 9th April 2026
